I’m working on the main story elements for a sequel to “How to Build a Time Machine”. I want to focus more on John Clifton, beginning with his “tripback” mission to Tokyo that he mentioned in his initial interview. I want to also focus on his life in 2151, his residence on Hofu Station, his assignment with the San Tibor temporal group, and his preparations for the tripback to 2014 that stranded him in our time. Finally, I want to share what happened to him after he was detained by the Dept. of Energy in 2018.
I’d love to hear your thoughts and suggestions.

Hi Taun, I’m Spark, and I have been reading ‘How to Build a Time Machine’ since I got that email regarding the download. I am still very excited that I finally have my hands on this incredibly imaginative and visionary story and style of writing, and I look forward even more to receiving my hardcover copy of the book.
I like your idea of building on John Clifton’s character, and since I am yet to finish ‘How to Build a Time Machine’, I have no idea whether it would be a prequel or a sequel, but if it is to be an intricate weave of events that transpired in both the past and the future (or should I say the past of the future and the future of the present) of the story of ‘How to Build a Time Machine’, you will definitely have me returning as a backer for that project.
Personally, I am very interested in future society and societal norms, and it would be fascinating to see John’s interactions with others from 2150s. If mankind has not solved at least a few social issues of today by 2151, I may as well as just give up now ahaha

Thank you Spark. It would, indeed, be both a prequel and sequel. What I would like to do would be to focus on the events leading up to his tripback to 2014, the four years after he was stranded, and then what happened immediately after he was detained by DoJ in February of this year.

The sequel is coming along very well. In fact, I expect it will be ready by January.
I am beginning Chapter 6 now. John’s marker has been selected for the tripback to 2014 Austin, and he has just received a private communication from his friend and Director of Archival Administration, Sai Patel. Patel had been doing some research (at John’s request) into what happened to Theresa Williams, another temporal specialist who was lost in 2137. Patel has discovered that Williams’ file was sealed by some outside party, and he warns John that his communications are being monitored. While on his way to file a formal notice with the CTI council in Geneva of a potential violation of the 2070 International Temporal Treaty, Patel’s transport loses gravimetric suspension and crashes near Dallas, Texas. John is stunned and dismayed at the loss of his friend, but when he attempts to gather the information Patel was preparing to take to the CYI council, he discovers the file is no longer sealed. Instead, the file report contains a plausible explanation for William’s loss, raising suspicion in John’s mind that the file was altered and Patel murdered to cover it up. Unable to act without proof, John is continuing his preparations for his 2014 tripback to Austin.

I have completed Chapter 9. John has had the accident that stranded him in the year 2014, and has just discovered his mission has been completed by another temporal specialist. He engages in a very telling conversation with his embedded AI datstem, “Fouray”, about the nature of his mission in the past, and he begins to make plans to see it through. His most immediate challenge is to repair the fracture on his EPM containment unit.
I have uploaded a sneak preview of the first 3 chapters of the sequel, to the root of this forum. Enjoy.

Taun,
Do you plan to return to Kickstarter for publishing your second book?
I really like that you’ve been independently publishing your work and would love to support another campaign. So many people use CreateSpace and the like, and therefore, get locked into platforms which I think ultimately limits their potential in both audience reached and I believe it also comes with IP and distribution channel restrictions, therefore limiting them as artists.
In any case, I cannot wait for a sequel, and I might have a few more readers to bring with me as my Kickstarter copy is making the rounds– my dad’s reading it right now, since I finished.

Yes, I intend to publish the sequel through Kickstarter.
I’m glad to hear you are enjoying the book.
I am presently completing Chapter 11. Clifton has had his initial meeting with the two NY media producers, Tom Pierce and Leah Vaughn. Although they are personally convinced that Clifton is the “real deal”, they are naturally concerned about exposing their news organization to ridicule, should Clifton turn out to be a magnificent fraud. So, while Leah has reluctantly agreed to take ‘custody’ Clifton and keep him occupied, Tom is taking it upon himself to check out Clifton’s story with a physicist friend at NYU.
